Since E3 is in just a couple weeks, we thought we'd whip up a list of our predictions of what we think the Big Three will announce at their conferences. Some interesting news has already leaked about Sony's announcements, and Microsoft has been heavily hyping their presence so it looks like it's going to be an exciting E3. Nintendo has been too busy swimming in piles of money to hype their conference, but I'm sure they'll be showing off some interesting stuff too. So onto the predictions! - Sony will announce PSP Go!: Kind of an obvious one to anybody following videogame news in the past couple months, but Sony will show off their download-focused PSP Go!. It won't replace the PSP-3000 though, since some people will want/require UMD games. Also the PSP-3000 will get a price drop, and the PSP Go! will come out at the 179.99.
- Downloadable PS2 Games or PS2 software emulation in FW 3.00: People have been clamoring for PS2 emulation for PS3s that don't have BC capabilities, and from job listings we know that Sony has at least looked into developing PS2 emulation. Announcing this would cause quite a bit of excitement in their fanbase and press but might be too difficult to do. Offering classic titles as downloadable would at least help go a long way towards satiating the unruly crowd.
- Yakuza 3 will be announced for a US release: Yakuza 3 has sold quite well in Japan, and Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 were critical darlings on the PS2. So why so quiet about bringing Yakuza 3 over to America? We're expecting an announcement at E3 that should end that silence.
This could be you!
- Sony and Microsoft both announce fancy motion controllers: Both Sony and Microsoft have expressed interest in getting a piece of that tasty Wii pie, and while Sony has had some half-hearted attempts with the Sixaxis and the PS Eye, but nothing that has been able to compete with the Wii-mote. Announcing new high-end motion controllers that can match or beat out a Wii-mote + Motion Plus would help out quite a bit on that front.
- Microsoft will show off Alan Wake, give it a release time frame: Alan Wake has been touted as one of Microsoft's most important exclusive title since it was unveiled in 2006. Almost nothing has been heard of it since then, and right about now Microsoft would benefit with showing off a hot exclusive. A gameplay demo of Alan Wake seems like a strong possibility at their E3 conference.
- Microsoft shows off a multiplatform Kojima game: Kojima is about to announce his next game, and we have the feeling that he's going to throw the 360 a bone by way of a multiplatform game. This move will be hyped by Microsoft as similar to their FFXIII unveiling last year, and a way to satiate their consumers who missed out on last year's MGS4.
- New Rare title to be unveiled: Considering Rare cost Microsoft half a billion dollars, you think we would have seen more games from them. It's rumored that they will be announcing their next game at E3, and that seems like a reasonable bet. Odds of it being a new IP is quite low, so expect a sequel to one of their classic franchises.
- Nintendo announces Pikmin 3: In an attempt to appease their hardcore fanbase, Nintendo will announce Pikmin 3. Nobody will be excited except some casual fans and long time Pikmin maniacs.
- Star Fox Wii will be announced: In a move that actually will appease their hardcore fanbase, Nintendo will be bringing Star Fox to the Wii and will utilize Motion Plus for high levels of accuracy while flying around and blasting ships.
- Nintendo unviels yet another silly peripheral: Having the Wii-mote, the nunchuck, the steering wheel, the gun attachment and Motion Plus just isn't enough for Nintendo. While we don't have any real idea of what they could add at this point, somehow we got the feeling that they'll find away to make you buy yet another piece of hardware.
So there we go, ten predictions that are guaranteed to be 100% accurate [Ed - probably not]. Do you have any predictions for this year's E3? If so, let us know in the comments section below!
