During their Leipzig Game Convention conference earlier this morning, Sony announced a new game for the PlayStation Eye peripheral called EyePet. The game stars an adorable monkey/kitty thing and utilizes the PS Eye to allow you to interact with the little guy in incredibly innovative ways. How innovative? Well not only can you pet him and tickle him, you can actually draw toys for him on a piece of paper and watch as he turns them into real in-game objects that he can play with. As you can see in the trailer, it is even possible to draw a car and then use the PS3 controller to drive around and chase after him.

Really, the only disappointing thing about EyePet is that it is not scheduled for release until the end of 2009 (and currently is only announced for the PAL regions). So in the meantime, we'll just have to be content to merely watch the video on repeat while giggling endlessly.
